Wednesday 6th May

Good Morning Everyone,

So, this Friday is a bank holiday, some of us will not notice the difference but, that aside, we should all celebrate the fact that it is 75 years since the end of WW2 in Europe. Wars have not stopped and for most of that 75 years we have lived with the threat of terrorism from one source or another. But at least there has not been anything like WW2. I hope you are all going to celebrate - some are having a social distancing party at the front of their drive some are doing their own thing. So, let’s celebrate and thank God for the peace of the last 75 years and the people that bravely fought for that peace.

This Sunday Service: Our Sunday Worship Service is led by Chris with me preaching on our sermon series from the book of Philippians.

Zoom Coffee Morning: This Saturday at 10.30am will be our zoom coffee morning. We will send out the link on Friday so watch out for it.

NEW – Zoom Prayer Meeting: This Monday (11th May) we will be having a zoom prayer meeting at 7.15 pm. We will send out the link on Monday Morning so watch out for it and please try to join us.

Today’s reading is: Romans 8:35-39

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Thought: Whatever we are going through nothing can separate us from the love of God. For some of us this is a very tough time and we can choose to distance ourselves from God. We can choose to not listen to the Holy Spirit but we need to stay connected with God by prayer, reading our Bibles and fellowship (in whatever way you can).

The Apostle Paul is saying in our reading, that God is always there for us, although at times, especially times of trouble, it may seem that God is not there. But let us always remember that verse from John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Some of us may be wondering where God is, but the Holy Spirit is with each one of us and wants to comfort us and we have to allow Him to do just that. Only we can separate ourselves from the love of God that is in Jesus our Lord.

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you love us so much that you came for each one of us, help us each day to wait on you and to feel your presence with each one of us. Amen

Wednesday 29th April

Good Morning Everyone,

Oh no! It’s been raining, and more is expected! I know the gardeners among you will say good we need it, and we do (well my garden does) so that is the upside. Also, at least we will not want to go out as much, unless like me it makes you think of days gone by (long gone) when I loved playing football in the rain. Oh, those sliding tackles, happy days for me not the guy who would be knocked into the air!

Zoom Quiz Night this FRIDAY 7.30PM: We will send out the link on Thursday so watch out for it.

This amused me this week: Do you have trouble remembering people? Well it can happen to us all. I read this a few days ago. At a reception attended by Queen Victoria, she was approached by another guest, Lord Portarlington, who told her affably, ‘Damn it, Ma’am, I know your face but I cannot put a name to it.’

Today’s reading is:

Isaiah 43:1 “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”

Thought: God actually commands us not to fear, or worry. The phrase “fear not” is used many times in the Bible, most likely because God knows the enemy uses fear to get under our skin. I’ve been a Christian for 12 years now and I’m still in awe that God, who created the universe, cares about every detail of my / our lives. We belong to an all-powerful, all-knowing Father who cares deeply about us and loves us. When we really think on this truth, it’s hard to remain fearful about the trials we face. By focusing on Him, and how He considers us his children, our focus naturally shifts from fear to faith. Jesus himself expressed anguish to the point of sweating blood, so God understands our fear is natural. But whatever you’re fearing in these uncertain times, focus on the power of a God who calls you by name, and commands fear to flee from your heart. Look to our God who says ‘you are mine.’

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you love us and have called us by name, thank you that You know what fear is and that You came for us. Help us through your Holy Spirit to lay that fear at your feet. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.

Good Morning Everyone,

Well, we may still be in lock down, but at least the weather is bright, it would feel worse for me if I looked out and saw dark skies and rain. I hope you saw our service on Sunday, if you missed it and want to watch it, it is still on our website.

Zoom Quiz Coffee Saturday: It was great to see you at our first zoom quiz, many thanks to James for hosting it and for the questions and to Louise for doing the scoring. This week we will have a Zoom Coffee get together; we will send out the link on Friday so watch out for it.

Prayer request: Thank you for praying and please keep praying for Pete, as he recovers at home from the virus. For Leslie as she has her second Chemotherapy tomorrow, for Ivy Oliver and for Mandy’s mum Wendy, her Covid 19 test has come back negative, thank the Lord, and her infection is 50% better. She is likely to be in hospital a little longer but is doing well. Please pray for Johnathan, his dementia is getting worse and he is confused especially during this time of lock down.

A Prayer for the Frontliners

Heavenly Father, thank You for the frontliners caring for, protecting, and serving our communities, our families, and us. Thank You for these servant leaders, called to this work, trained for such a time as this, daily risking their own health and safety for others.

Please protect them from harm. Give them courage and strength. Draw close, Lord, and let them feel Your presence throughout the long hours they are working.

Father, please provide everything they need, both for the people they are serving and for their loved ones. Surround them with people who will help and support them and their families, even as they selflessly care for others.

You said we would face troubles in this world, but also that You had overcome it. Please work together with our frontliners, Lord, to ultimately bring about the best outcome possible.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Matthew 11:25-30 (TPT)

Jesus Invites Everyone to Come

25 Then Jesus exclaimed, “Father, thank you, for you are Lord, the Supreme Ruler over heaven and earth! And you have hidden the great revelation of your authority from those who are proud and wise in their own eyes. Instead, you have shared it with these who humble themselves. 26 Yes, Father, your plan delights your heart, as you’ve chosen this way to extend your kingdom—by giving it to those who have become like trusting children. 27 You have entrusted me with all that you are and all that you have. No one fully and intimately knows the Son except the Father. And no one fully and intimately knows the Father except the Son. But the Son is able to unveil the Father to anyone he chooses.

28 “Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Then come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis. 29 Simply join your life with mine. Learn my ways and you’ll discover that I’m gentle, humble, easy to please. You will find refreshment and rest in me. 30 For all that I require of you will be pleasant and easy to bear.”

Thought: Jesus says come to Him and lay your worries on Him. So, let’s just do that and Jesus will carry us through. And don’t forget that the Father loves each one of us and wants to carry that burden, that worry. Let’s rest in the arms of Jesus. Let’s open our minds to the love of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you came for us and that you told us that we can lay our burden on you, thank you that you love us. Lord help us to stay focused on you, to trust in you and to listen to your Holy Spirit. Lord we pray for the sick, we ask Lord that you would heal them and protect those who are not sick. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.

Well I hope you all had a good Easter, I know it was very different!

Zoom Coffee Saturday Morning: It was great to see some of you on Saturday at our Zoom Coffee morning. This week, instead of a coffee morning, James has kindly offered to do a quiz for us! We will send out the link on Friday so get your thinking caps on!

Bishop Peter said this this week: Though we now celebrate Easter and our Risen Lord, it feels like we still linger under the shadow of the cross. As we remain physically isolated from one another, let’s remember that Jesus’ disciples were locked in the upper room for the first days after Easter. Yet the Risen Christ came among them and said ‘Peace be with you’. Though unseen, the same risen and living Jesus stands among us in every home and anxious situation and as he said to Thomas, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’ ‘We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.’

Today’s reading is:-

1 Peter 1:3-9

Praise to God for a Living Hope

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Thought: As we continue through this pandemic, this trial, please know that God is in charge. I saw a joke this morning… there was the devil and God looking down on the world and the devil said “through this pandemic I have closed all your church’s” and God said “and I have opened up one in every home”. As we celebrate this Easter, Jesus has risen, death has no hold on us who believe because of our faith in the risen Lord Jesus. Let’s rest in His arms and put our faith in the only place where we will not be let down. Let’s welcome the Holy Spirit to guide us and walk with us through these uncertain times.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for your love for us, that you would die for us. Lord help us to stay focused on you, to give you thanks and to trust in you and to listen to your Holy Spirit.

Lord we pray for the sick, we ask Lord that you would heal them and protect those who are not sick.

In Jesus Name we pray, Amen

Hi everyone,

Hopefully you are all managing to view our service that is on our website or on Moor Lane Church Facebook page and on Moor Lane Church YouTube account.

This week is Holy Week and on Good Friday at 2pm we will be having our ‘Hour at the Cross’ service which takes the form of a meditation, with Bible readings, monologues and prayer as we walk with Jesus to the cross. This will be on our website and on YouTube.

We will be putting our 10am Easter Sunday Communion service online on Sunday so please have your bread and wine ready so we can all join in communion together.

Prayer request: Please keep praying for Pete Lawrence (recovering in the Queens from the virus) and for Lesley Jefferson who was diagnosed with Lymphoma and is now receiving chemotherapy.

Send them to moorlanevicar@gmail.com or WhatsApp them to my mobile and we'll add your photo to our gallery and if you’re under twenty give you a shout out in the service on Sunday.

If you need help, just ask: We have a team of people that are ready and willing to get shopping for you if you are unable, so far, we have been called upon only six times. We are there for you, your friends or neighbours. And if you just want to talk you can always contact Chris and myself.

This amused me: Part of my reading this morning was from Deuteronomy 9:12, This was when Moses was on the mountain with God and the people had made a golden calf, the reading is - Then the Lord told me, ‘Go down from here at once, because your people whom you brought out of Egypt have become corrupt. They have turned away quickly from what I commanded them and have made an idol for themselves.’

Now what made me laugh was that when our children or grandchildren have done something wrong, I say your son / daughter / grandchild has done. When all is well, I say our or even my.

God had called the people of Israel my people, but at this point they become your people. It made me laugh to know that some time we say the same things as God without even knowing it.

Be assured: This is Holy week, the week before Jesus goes to the cross for us. Therefore, most readings are about that time as told in the Bible and earlier this week I came across this reading and thought I would share it and my thoughts with you.

John 16:31-33.

31 “Do you now believe?” Jesus replied. 32 “A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. 33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

My thoughts: Jesus tells us we will have trouble, and this pandemic is just one of many troubles we will have. Some people think that if I accept Jesus as my Lord and saviour all my problems will be over. No, in fact as the reading tells us we can expect troubles and at this time we have troubles. Some of us are affected more than others but to one degree or another we are all affected. So, let’s do what Jesus tells us and do not worry, take heart, take these loving words from Jesus and know that whatever the depth of your trouble God the Farther, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are with you.

Prayer

Lord, thank you that you went to the cross for us. Thank you that you warned us we would have trouble and thank you that you told us you would be there in the midst of that trouble. Please come through your Holy Spirit and help us through these troubling times.

In Jesus name we pray.

Prayer for our community and country.

God, You alone are worthy of honour, glory, and praise. With You, we can overcome every storm—including the global impact COVID-19 is having on our world.

Right now, we are asking You to:

Heal those who are sick, and at this time we lift up to you Pete and Boris and all those in Hospital at this time, and Lord please protect those who are not ill at this time.

Give our leaders extra wisdom as they navigate this pandemic and economic uncertainty. Strengthen Your global Church. Reveal to us how we can partner together to reach the needs of those around us.

Calm our fears. Fill us with Your hope, joy, and peace as we continue to trust in You.

Use this pandemic to pave the way for spiritual renewal. We want Your glory, power, and healing to be on display.

Come, Lord Jesus, come.

In Jesus’ Name,

Palm Sunday

This week it is Palm Sunday and we will be having our all age service led by the team, don’t forget to send in your pictures of your palm cross (for ideas look on our web site). Also, please have a paper and pen or pencil handy and your percussion instruments (pots, pans, wooden spoons etc) at hand if you fancy making a noise!

God never sends you into a situation alone.

Whatever the situation is right now be assured God is with you.

Prayer

Right now, we are asking You to:

Heal those who are sick and protect those who are not.

Give our leaders extra wisdom as they navigate this pandemic and economic uncertainty. Strengthen Your global Church. Reveal to us how we can partner together to reach the needs of those around us.

Jesus Calms the Storm

22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.

24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.

Thought: -

All through our life here on earth, life throws us some wobbles, and at this time we are living through a very big wobble, but if we reach out to Jesus, He is there for us. With a little faith in Jesus, He will give us His peace. Sometimes we think that we are drowning in all the stuff that is going on around us and we let fear and worry push the Holy Spirit out of the way. When we realign ourselves with Father, Son and Holy Spirit and call on the name of Jesus He comes and calms our storm.

So, let us all stay connected with our Father God, through prayer and reading our Bibles.

Wednesday 25th March

Hi Everyone,

Well this is the second of my weekly messages to all of you. My intention is to drop you all a message once a week with a thought for the week some scripture and when necessary some information.

So, let’s start with the information – As previously mentioned, there will be NO church service of any sort for the foreseeable future at Moor Lane, also there will be no other activates in line with C of E and government directives.

We will continue to post our 10am Sunday service online on this website.

Many thanks to Rich Tomlin - without Rich’s hard work behind the scenes, Sundays service and any future ones would not be so good and smooth. God sent Rich to us for such a time as this - Rich works in the Tech sector and knows about what we have to do and more importantly how to do it. So, thank you, Lord and thank you, Rich! Thanks also to Louise Diggory and Chris Perkins who built the new web site and again to Rich who was able to make it go live. It will be quite crazy but it should also be great to see each other. Earlier this week I came across this and thought I would share it with you –

Your Hotline to God

In October 1962, there was a standoff between President Kennedy of the United States and Premier Khrushchev of the Soviet Union over planting missiles in Cuba. The Cuban Missile Crisis was probably the closest we have ever been to World War III, but it was averted because communication was established.

In the days before mobile phones and contemporary ways of instant messaging, it was decided to put one red telephone on the desk of the President of the United States, and another on the desk of the Premier of Soviet Russia. The communication link was called the ‘hotline’. If at any time there was a danger of misunderstanding, they could simply lift up the phone and communicate.

Communication is vital to all relationships. Setting aside time to build and nurture communication is essential. Jesus has given you a ‘hotline’ to God, but it is not just for emergency use – it is to be used all the time.

A Prayer for Healing

Lord God,

Your Word says that You answer people when they call on Your name, and that You deliver them.

Right now, we ask that You would heal those who are sick or who are carrying the COVID-19 virus without knowing it. Heal them and protect those around them. Provide a cure for the Coronavirus and heal our economy. Bring a quick and miraculous end to the darkness in our world.

Whether Your healing comes today, next week, or next month, we believe that You will heal our world and we will continue to praise You, even as we wait for answers. Please deliver us.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen.

All we can do in the current situation is stay safe, keep social distancing and pray and give it over to God. We can rest in the knowledge that God loves each and every one of us to an unbelievable extent and that in each one of us the Holy Spirit lives and guides us to be more like Jesus.

Let’s show the love of Jesus to the world around us, reach out to your neighbours and offer to help them if and when they are in need whether that is in self-isolation due to the virus or due to ill health or age. If they need food and you cannot get out yourself contact me and the team will sort it out. We have a team of people who are ready and willing to shop or drop off prescriptions etc whatever is needed. We have been called upon already, lets all be the hands, feet and voice of Jesus spreading His peace and joy.

Wednesday 25th March - from the Diocese of Chelmsford

Good Morning,

The Diocese of Chelmsford sent the following message yesterday:

Join Christians around the world in prayer.

Archbishop Justin Welby and Bishop Stephen are backing a call from the Pope for all Christians to say the Lord’s Prayer together tomorrow at 11am (GMT).

Archbishop Justin said: “When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray he taught them the words that we know as the Lord’s Prayer or the Our Father. This prayer gives us words to pray even when we don’t know how or what to pray."

Join us tomorrow as we unite in prayer around the world.

Our Father in Heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours

Now and for ever.

Amen.

Sunday 22nd March

Good Morning,

This week's Sunday service is now on our website!

If you go to 'online service' (if you're on a phone you will have to go to the tab or drop down menu) and play the video, you will get the whole service.

It is also on my Facebook page and some others are also sharing it.

We are also going to get a Moor Lane Facebook page set up so watch this space.

Important message - Moor Lane Church will NOT be open for individual prayer as originally planned. The Bishop of Chelmsford has decided the risk of spreading the virus is too great so the church will remain closed during the day.

Wednesday 18th March

Hi everyone,

Well this is the first of my new messages to all of you.

My intention is to drop you all a message once a week via email or text with a thought for the week some scripture and when necessary some information.

So, let’s start with the information – There will be NO church service at Moor Lane this Sunday, also there will be no other activates i.e. Alpha, Marriage Course, Saturday Café, Dads and Kids and no multiples club, this is due to the Coronavirus and instructions from the C of E higher ups.

So, is there any good news? Well may be some better news. We will be streaming our 10am Sunday service online from our website.

Also, this Sunday the Arch Bishops are calling - Day of Prayer and Action. This is their message to us all:

‘As we embark on this journey, we will join together in a National Day of Prayer and Action, this Sunday 22 March, Mothering Sunday. We will remember those who are sick or anxious and those working in our Health Service. As one action we are calling on everyone to place a lighted candle in their window at 7pm as a sign of solidarity and hope in the light of Christ that can never be extinguished.’

This Sunday our reading is Ephesians 3:14-21 A Prayer for the Ephesians. The Apostle Paul says this:

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
